Word Dance Theater wins Two Dance Metro DC Awards for New Multi-disciplinary Production Once Wild

Bethesda, MD -  Word Dance Theater’s latest multi-disciplinary production Once Wild:  Isadora in Russia was the winner of  the 2013 Dance Metro DC awards for “Outstanding Group Performance,” and “Excellence in Stage Design/Multimedia” for Jared Mezzocchi’s leading-edge work in projection design.  Held on September 9, 2013 at George Washington University’s Dorothy Betts Marvin Theater, the Dance Metro DC awards honors the commitment and artistry in dance throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
“We are so honored to have been recognized for our work among such a talented group of dance companies in our area.  Once Wild was such a special, and artistically stimulating project for all of the creators, actors and dancers involved.  Having others recognize the hard-work, creativity, and artistry has made the Once Wild experience that much more rewarding and humbling for all of us, “ said Artistic Director, Cynthia Word.
Conceived by Word Dance Theater’s Cynthia Word, and produced by Word Dance Theater and the Georgetown University’s Center for the Performing Arts, Once Wild:  Isadora in Russia stepped across creative boundaries to offer a bold, new vision of seminal artist Isadora Duncan, her work, and her years in Bolshevik Russia.  Noted by the Washington Post as “an important creation,” “a bold new work of art,” and “a collaborative work of the highest order,” Once Wild:  Isadora in Russia opened in May 2013 to three sold out performances.
